Supplement Review: PhD Synergy Iso-7

PhD Synergy Iso-7
Basic Ingredients
  • Whey Protein, Milk Protein isolate and Peptide Bonded L-Glutamine (derived from Wheat Protein isolate)
  • 5g of Creatine Monohydrate
  • Zinc
  • Magnesium & Vitamin B6
PhD. Sounds like some real high profile stuff, wouldn't you say, with a name like that. Honestly from my experience, your absolutely right. Myself and others that have experimented with it, would agree that it does exactly what you would expect from a protein shake. It builds mass. Very well indeed. Possibly better than any protein I have seen and tested. Stated as a UK Sports Nutrition company, PhD uses science to produce a high performance protein, with great taste. This isn't something you see in most protein shakes. Its very difficult to find a protein that supplements the muscle growth and tastes like that amazing chocolate cake or ice cream you had as a kid. As a kid, mint chocolate was my favourite ice cream, and still is today (only on cheat days). The great thing about PhD Synergy is that it comes in various flavours each of which tasting greater than the last. Luckily for me, mint chocolate is a flavour available. Upon tasting, it has a rich chocolate flavour, of what you would expect melted ice cream to be. With that, it has a refreshing mint flavour which gives it that extra edge, reminding you that this is a refreshment, not a rough venture of poor taste and lumps of powder. Now this is where I make your brain hit dilemma mode. Most would say: 'how can you fault such a unique and revolutionary product like PhD Synergy, it seems too good to be true'. This is true. It is too good to be true. But with every great thing, there is something waiting to bite its ass! I took this protein along with my programme which was strict on its diet and training programme. My meal plan involved 4-5 small meals a day. From what i found, it build the muscle that it was supposed to, but it made my gut grow a hell of a lot! I figured it was my meals, so I cut back on carbs for a bit. And threw in some more cardio as well. Same thing! Gut got bigger and my abs weren't defined any more. Bottom line: It is a serious mass builder, in more ways than others. So be wary of this. Another issue is price. PhD products are seriously expensive. I have a GNC Gold card membership which reduces prices a considerate amount. Synergy has a great reduction, with a Gold Card price of £35.99. However, without a membership, prices can range between £66.99-£70.00. My Summary PhD is a great product, when moderated with your diet. It builds muscle in the right places, and after taking it, i saw results in the first week or so, which is very strange to see from any protein. Usually, protein takes 2-3 weeks to show signs of change. PhD tastes great, it has many addictive tastes which you will never get bored of. Be aware: it can give you serious mass gains where you dont want them (especially gut). Also, do not buy the shaker cup which is 'recommended' by sellers. PhD cups have a ball which mashes up the protein, instead of having a grill to chop the protein into smaller pieces. DO NOT BUY IT! It is ridiculously expensive and not worth the money. PhD mixes well everytime. The protein cup you have is just fine, do not think you need anything extra with this product, its already a strain on the wallet. Remember this: every body is different. Every body will react differently. You might see changes in two days or feel side effects at certain times. Let me know what you think if you choose to take this product. I like this product because it does some amazing things that you wont see from many proteins out there. However, it is pricey, considering the frequency of doses. It can also give you things that you would not want to see, especially for those who want lean physiques.
And with all proteins: take in moderation. Always read the label! But you already know that.

Let me know what you guys think of this product, with your experiences if you've tried it.
Let me know of any other proteins you want reviews on.

Know you Role - Identify your Goal

Welcome to Hard Iron and Soul. The place to find info and advice on the world of health and fitness.
First things first, who am I and what experience do I have in the world of health and fitness.
Academically none, which is why I'm here. The world of health and fitness is for anyone. You don't need to be a biologist, doctor or nutritionist to know about health and fitness. Anyone can do it. Any mind set, any background, anybody!
I'm here to make health and fitness a little more interesting, keeping the clear cut basics consistent, but with a bit of 'human' thrown in, so I wont throw in fancy words and not define them.

As a consistent gym member, I'm always looking to learn new things, as you should do when entering the world of fitness.
I have been training regularly for the past two years. I'm no Mr Olympia, but I love what I do. Training and the gym has a key factor in my life. My life is planned around my meal times, preparation, sleeping and training times (and i happen to throw in a Mathematics degree in there somewhere). But there is a reason to why I do all this. There is a motive at the end of the road. That is to be in the best athletic form i can possibly be in, through performance and aesthetics.
For those who are starting the road of health and fitness or are beginning to look into but not too sure about how to get started, this is why I am here.

The title speaks for itself, identify your goal. Know what you want and how you want it. Take this with a pinch of salt however. There is a fine line between a want and a need. For example, I want to fit the athleticism of an NFL offensive player, whether it be a wide receiver or running back. With that, I need to improve my strength and physique to reach that standard. Those who are not familiar with the NFL, the wide receivers and running backs do a lot of carrying the ball.
speed is an important aspect primarily. But I'm not going to reach that speed if I carry around a lot of body fat. Hence, I need to lose that body fat. How I do that will be explained further through other posts.
That's the key idea. Identify what you want every time you put on that sweat band, that gym glove, those fresh comfortable sneakers you purchased. From that, look at your lifestyle and see what you need to do, to get there.
Common mistake: most people don't know what they want when they come to the gym. They want to do whats exciting rather than functional. This is great to do from the start, and its a good way to start familiarizing yourself with the 'ethos' of the gym. But its not for life. If you want your lifestyle to change and become a new person, a goal is the essential first step to getting there.

A common setback from identifying your goal, is looking at what you need to change. At the start, these things are usually quite negative, which can make you feel like your not good enough or its too much work.
Keep this in mind, the first step doing something about it, is accepting it. Its harsh, but there is no two way about it.
The more you try to hide it, it will never make itself better. The only way to get rid of it, is to fight it. The more you fight, the less it will make itself better, sometimes more than what you expect.

From the title, to know your role in the gym, you need to find that goal. Your goal works in a pyramid. At the top is your all time goal, and then it breaks down into smaller chunks. Its how you choose to manage the size of those chunks. Smaller are easier to digest. The smaller and realistic they are, the easier it will become. The more you fight, the more results you will see.

Hit me up with any questions you might have and advice you might need to getting your fitness life up and running.
